Off to Scout Camp.....and they're back!

Logan and Carson headed out to their first week-long Scout Camp.
It was an early morning rise for a summer break.
They had a great time.

Logan came home without his voice....his Scoutmaster didn't think we'd mind :)
Carson was in need of some serious chapstick therapy.

They both completed at least 12 merit badges during their week at Scout Camp! Hooray, that is 12 less I have to nag them about!

Klondike 2010 & Glasses...

Carson and Logan packed up yesterday and went to the annual Klondike campout. I tried to provide all the items necessary to keep them warm during this very cold and wet campout. As you can see they were both ready to go and I had to take a picture for my blog.

As I set-up the shot of Logan I thought I had focused. Carson's photo came out focused well enough. I am seeing a trend now that I don't like, I can't see all that great! More and more of my shots are blurry when I KNOW that I focused before I took the shot. It is only after I load the photos onto my computer do I see that I CAN'T see!

Logan receives his Arrow of Light

Logan moved from Cub Scouts to 11 yr old Boy Scouts at the beginning of this month. Before moving on he had completed his Arrow of Light, the only badge that moves with him from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. Now I have two boys working on merit badges! Fun!

Our Last Pinewood Derby!!!!!

I don't know why that makes me so excited to have our last pinewood derby race but it does. It is more work for Steve and none for me, really. I am sure as we move on to Boy Scouts this next year that I will wish for the easy days of Cub Scouts!

I have to say that I was very excited when we found out our baby was a girl when we were pregnant last year! And not just for the cute girl clothes, but no more Cub Scouts!

These years in Cub Scouts with Carson and Logan together has been a bit challenging at times like the pinewood derby. I spend a lot of time before these competitive events talking to them about the importance of being happy for their brother regardless of their own winning or losing status! Trying to encourage them to be good sports! It did not go over well one year when Carson placed in the top three and Logan didn't! Logan's middle name should have been Competitive!

Cub Scout Blue & Gold Banquet - Feller's Cake Bake

This year's theme of the Cub Scout Blue & Gold Banquet was Chinese New Year. The boys have to design and decorate a cake on that theme. The mother is only allowed to bake the cake. ALL of the rest is up to the boys and their dad. It is usually a last minute dash to get the cake decorated and to the church on time. It seems year after year as they give awards we always seem to get the "Most Animated" award. This year this cake got the "Best Teamwork" award. With two cub scouts this can be quite a task to just get the boys to agree on the same thing, let alone share a cake entry! The pinewood derby is up for next month, which is another father and sons activity. The excitement here is to help the boys remember to be happy for their brother if they do better than themselves. We have many discussions about being a good sport and reminding them it is supposed to be fun. Last year I think Carson and Logan did very well, but ultimately Carson's car was the faster of the two boys.

At one point we had all three boys in Cub Scouts doing a car, talk about exciting! Now ONLY two doing this stuff! This is our last Feller's Cake Bake and last Pinewood Derby! In September Logan will be going on to 11 year old Scouts and January '09 Carson will be done with Cub Scouts too! It's a good thing Steve is the Scoutmaster! I am not sure how I am going to get three boys to get their Eagle Scout done!
